Around the time I started my own magazine, Aksara, I had to compartmentalise my time more judiciously. This meant less conventional journalism work and more allocation for big projects (that technically was supposed to be undertaken in spurts, or so I had hoped). One of these projects was for Transparency International's Global Corruption Report. Coming from a country where corruption is regarded by the less scrupulous as a sport, reporting deeper on a persistent scourge was an important opportunity for me. I prepared the section on Southeast Asia, and the reporting took me to Thailand and Malaysia. It is work that I would readily assume again.
